Local History

We have two Local History groups with plenty of spaces

Surrey History Group [Note the new name, formerly history group 1]
Meets: 2nd Thursday of the month except July and August
Time: 10:00 to 12:00 noon

We are now expanding our interests to cover a wider area, more or less in accord with the OS Explorer map 146 which conveniently has Reigate and Redhill at its centre. We meet in our most convenient homes and take it in turn to present a project. During and after refreshments we are encouraged to discuss and add to the day’s subject. Occasionally we have a guest speaker and may organise visits to sites of interest. Recent topics have included selected biographies, reigate stone and histories of Merstham, Leith Hill Place, Bletchinley and local Agriculture.

Local History Group 4
Meets: 2nd Thursday of the month
Time: 2.00pm – 4.00pm

Has about 20 members, Currently there is no cap on membership as all meetings are either visits to  historic properties or speaker meetings held at the Friends Meeting House.

I would say most visits incur quite a bit of walking and stair climbing, so prospective members should be mobile, and preferably be contactable by e-mail. Each member is expected to arrange at least one visit every two years.
